Research and Development Fellow

Deadline to Apply: December 12, 2016

 

Description:

AfricAid is seeking an unpaid fellow to assist in the ongoing generation of funding prospects, including foundations, grants, and corporate sponsors. The Research and Development Fellow will work under the direction of the Development Director and External Relations and Operation Coordinator in the Denver office and collaborate with our Grant Writer in Tanzania. This position will require 10-20 hours per week, with a minimum of 8 hours at the AfricAid office and flexibility to complete the other hours from home or in the office. The ideal candidate will be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months with preference given to those able to stay 6-12 months.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary research on foundations and grants and create prospect list that includes background information, specific requirements, and deadlines.
  • Assist in writing Letters of Inquiry and/or Grant Reports under supervision of AfricAid staff.
  • Explore options for partnerships with community leaders and corporate sponsorships and record information for External Relations and Operation Coordinator to follow up.
  • Compile list of conferences, speaking opportunities, restaurant nights, service clubs, publications, and other opportunities to increase exposure and raise funds.
  • Attend AfricAid team monthly meetings and development committee meetings.
  • Assist Development Director, External Relations and Operations Coordinator, and/or Grant Writer with other tasks as necessary.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ideal candidates will be currently enrolled in or previously completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree program with a background or interest in non-profit management, international development, or fundraising.

Communications Fellow

Description:

AfricAid is seeking an unpaid fellow to assist in the ongoing development and implementation of its communications efforts. The Communications Fellow will work under the direction of the External Relations & Operation Coordinator to manage social media and assist with other printed and online marketing materials. This position will require 10-20 hours per week, with a minimum of 8 hours at the AfricAid office and flexibility to complete the other hours from home or in the office. The ideal candidate will be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months with preference given to those able to stay 9-12 months.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and expand AfricAid’s social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin and explore options for expansion. Manage everything from content creation, graphic design, schedules, and completing daily posts.
  • Design layout for online and print materials, such as invitations and newsletters.
  • Draft content for print materials in collaboration with staff, including press releases, print and e-newsletters, and additional fundraising campaign materials.
  • Update AfricAid blog with potential for other website maintenance.
  • Seek new opportunities for media coverage and online networking.
  • Provide support for implementation of ongoing fundraising efforts and community events.
  • Attend AfricAid team monthly meetings and communications committee meetings.
  • Assist External Relations & Operations Coordinator with other tasks as necessary.

 

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will be currently enrolled in or previously completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree program with a background or interest in marketing and public relations, non-profit management, communications, or information technology (IT).

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin.
  • Print and media design and layout skills required utilizing programs such as Publisher, InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop.
  • Experience with website, blogging, and email management programs such as WordPress and Constant Contact a plus.

Events Fellow 

Deadline to Apply: December 12, 2016

 

Description:

AfricAid is seeking an unpaid fellow to assist with event planning and outreach, including AfricAid’s major fundraising event, Art & Soul. The Events Fellow will work under the direction of the External Relations and Operations Coordinator.  This position will require 10-20 hours per week, with a minimum of 8 hours at the AfricAid office and flexibility to complete the other hours from home or in the office. The Events Fellow will be expected to assist at AfricAid events held during evening and weekend hours, including the Art & Soul Gala on September 24, 2016. The ideal candidate will have a car and valid driver’s license to transport small items to events and will be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months with preference given to those able to stay 9-12 months.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee silent auction solicitations for Art & Soul, solicitation letters and phone calls, thank you letters, item pick up, managing storage, photographing, and cataloging for the event.
  • Assist with solicitation and management of live auction items and event sponsorships.
  • Support staff in day of event activities, including setup, registration, and cleanup.
  • Assemble materials (including merchandise) and represent AfricAid at conferences and tabling events. Research new events and fairs for AfricAid to attend.
  • Maintain inventory of merchandise and marketing materials and assist in developing brand, materials, language, and design of new merchandising program.
  • Collaborate with communications intern and staff to create and carry out marketing and social media campaigns for events.
  • Attend AfricAid team monthly meetings and event committee meetings.
  • Assist External Relations and Operations Coordinator in all other related tasks.
